| The major event of March was the weekend that Altay became the Chess Champion of the State of Arizona. He put in hours of practice preparing for this. I was so proud of him when he was presented with the BIGGEST trophy on the stand. He was the feature story of the Desert Paradise Chess Club newsletter! After the interviews, being that this weekend was also my birthday, we celebrated his victory and my birthday at the Tanque Verde Steak House. Altay tipped them off that it was my birthday, and, I got a BIG bowl of ice cream with a candle! AND, as you can see, I really needed that! Thankfully, Altay helped me eat it. Another big event was the SAT test. Altay thought enough pictures were taken, but I still got a few more. Beginning of the day, a What's Up Doc look, arriving at, finished, and quick look over effort. Actually Tucson started off March with snow on the Catalina Mountains and rain in the City. This got the weeds to grow like crazy in the back yard --- and Altay eliminated them in record time. Another haircut was needed. He met Taisiya Kamnatnaya from Uralsk in Kazakhstan at a Sister Cities meeting. Got in a round of minature golf somehow, checked out a motorcycle, and ... whew ... got another haircut! So many events ... All the pictures have multiple shots ... look at them one at a time so your eyes and mind don't spin ! Each paragraph, except this one, matches with a picture sequence. Good Luck. |

| Then, so things were more balanced, took a trip to Phoenix where he "visited" the County Jail and the local FOX television channel 10 with other FLEX students. A tour of the station ended up in the news room. Seated at the news desk, Altay looked like a relaxed newscaster. Got to play weatherman (2nd picture shows effect). And at the end of a real newscast, the group had their pictures taken with the real cast. And for the record, a picture of most of the FLEX students in Arizona ... what a month! |
