Sister City Programming at Work
Pasted here is an inspiring article by Randy Avon of the Ft. Lauderdale
Sister Cities Program:
Aloha my Friends,
I have just had the pleasure of returning from several days of high
energy caring and giving. The Wheelchair Foundation has an annual golf
tournament in Northern California to raise funds for their great cause.
This past week, they set new records when some dedicated folks played
some golf and then did some serious bidding at the awards dinner. Former
Brentwood Mayor Pete Petrovich Chaired the classic 4th annual event.
It was a WOW!
I just thought I had seen some bidding at live auctions before !!!!!!!!
After a private dinner for 6 at Ken Behring's estate went for $28,000,
I knew I would be experiencing an evening of a lifetime..................and
I did!
$350,000 Plus..................... later the evening ended with people
hugging, crying, and celebrating their efforts. Wow!
At six the next morning, Ken, his wonderful wife Pat, Wheelchair Foundation
President David Behring, Rotarians, and other volunteers loaded on the
Behring jet and transported containers of chairs to Panama and Colombia.
The First Lady's, our Ambassadors, and the respective President's of
the countries were there to help distribute the wheelchairs. There was
not a dry eye in the house.
What a joy it is to be involved with such a great cause. Like most of
you, I am involved in many Not-for-profit organizations. This is one
of the most fulfilling. Every wheelchair changes a person's life INSTANTLY.
Mahalo to each of you who touched the 4th Annual Drive "Fore"
Mobility Golf Tournament. A special Mahalo to the Beinke and Behring
Families----------------You are the Best!
Jack, Marvin, Marty, and Team..............Maybe we should do one in
Fort Lauderdale!
Aloha my Friends, Randy
