Dear Sirs,

         It is our honor to welcome you on behalf of the Directorate of the International Almaty Film Festival  - Shaken Zhuldyzdary («Shaken’s Stars»),  which ash been entitled so in memory of Shaken Aimanov, a Kazakhstani film director and actor.

          Our film forum was founded in 2003 and has been the only annual competitive festival of young film directors and debut films in the territory of Central Asia . 

          We are pleased to encourage you to take part in a regular annual Fifth Film Festival – Shaken Zhuldyzdary («Shaken’s Stars»), which will be held in the city of Almaty , the Republic of Kazakhstan from September 15-19, 2007.

          Films produced on DVD и Betacam carriers during a period of 2005 through 2007 will be admitted into the competition program of the Film Festival on the basis of the following sections:

Section: Films of Young film directors (the age of a participant has to be up to 35 inclusively)

            Nominations:

           1.  Feature films (full length)

           2.  Feature films (short length)

           3.  Non-Feature films (full length)

           4.  Feature films (short length)

           5.  Animated films

  Section:  Debut films (The first film, with no limitations in this specific genre)

  Section: Students’ films (with no limitation in this specific genre)

        Among mandatory conditions for participation in the Festival there will be the following requirements:

• Deadline for acceptance of applications and films shot on DVD carriers (for the review by the screening committee is not later than July 15, 2007.
• Expenses associated with the transportation of the cassettes to the Film Festival are to be covered by the sender;
• Participation in the contest will be free of charge;
• Winners of a competition for each nomination in accordance with decisions of the jury will be awarded cash prizes.

       Programs of the films which have been selected for the competition from each film producing school have to be represented by either a film director or an authorized person.

      Feature and non-feature films which have been produced for the last five years (2002-2007) may be included into the information-guest, non-competitive programs.  Also, the deadline for the presentation of retrospective and thematic film programs is not later than July 15, 2007 and they have to be submitted to the screening committee on DVD and Betаcam carriers.

       Terms and conditions applicable for the participants and guests of the film festival, who represent their films and which have been selected for screening at the Festival.   The Directorate of the Film Festival will cover the following expenses related with the stay of the guests in the city of Almaty :

1.      Air fare (economy class – round trip);

2.   Accommodation in a 4-star hotel;
3.   Three meals daily, including banquets and buffet suppers;
4.   Above-ground transportation;
5.   Sight-seeing tours and cultural program.
