Chairman’s Chat  June 30, 2003.

    by Jerry Gary, Chairman

Our Founder’s Night dinner and fundraiser was a SMASHING success!  The Saturday, June 28th affair was fun, sociable, fun, interactive, fun…fun….fun!  Terry and Marja Mann’s home was a showplace for our get-together.  A house with a view!  Sally did a marvelous job in setting up a display of Kazakhstan items of clothing, books, Yurtas, musical instruments and unusual items like a camel whip!  AND, Elliott Glicksman…what can you say about Elliott?  A very funny man.  GREAT schtick, Elliott!  He was tuned in to the audience and got yoicks talking about Harry and the US Postal Service, Sally’s ECD behavior in hotel rooms and gentle teasing of Tatyana about her arrival and first experiences in Tucson.  We met Sandra Taylor, Grandmother-to-be of an adopted Kazakh baby, welcomed Sheryal and Greg as new members, met Connie Myren, a long-time acquaintance of the Chinworth’s, saw Lou and Sharon Hekman, hopefully not for the last time, pleased that Alberto Moore, Chairman of the Sister Cities Association of Tucson, could join us, affable and funny Harry Loss, the closest thing to a Founder present, sweet Tatyana, everyone’s candidate for TASCC’s most successful and meaningful project to date, Gary Sawyer, our photographer for the evening  AND…TADA…how abut that great meal prepared by Incredible Edibles and served by Peter The Great!  And, the closing act????? Mariachi Monarca, from Salpointe High School quietly set up on the patio at about 8:15 and entertained us during peach cobbler dessert.  Ruben Moreno and the many supportive parents deserve BIG THANK-YOU’s for coming so far to play for such a short time.  Thanks to Tom Volgy for his prerecorded message on the founding and history of TASCC.  He was en route to Hungary to present a symposium on Terrorism and couldn’t join us.  ALL IN ALL a delightful experience.  Creating traditions is very important to the future and strength of any organization.  An annual event such as this will lend strength and credibility to TASCC.  Thanks to all.
